Matt McFadyen

Matt McFadyen is the Regional Sports Coordinator for the lower South Island area, which includes Special Olympics South Canterbury, North Otago, South Otago, Otago, Southland, and Eastern Southland.

Matt joins the team bringing a vast range of experience in the sports and community sector - including working as a Sports Advisor for Sport Tasman (leading the Weet-Bix ‘Kiwi Kids’ Tryathlon), Programme Coordinator for Sport Southland (at the MLT Event Centre, Gore), managing sports and facilities around Otago, coordinating volunteers for the NZ Masters Games (Dunedin) in between, and much more!

Matt's very excited to be joining the team at Special Olympics NZ and building on the great work carried out by those before him. "It's always encouraging to be involved with people who are as passionate as you are about making a positive difference in people's lives."

Born and bred in Dunedin, he's a mad cricket fan and dead keen on a bit of footy as well (His wife Bex has endured this passion for a long time now!) He loves to take on the challenge of sports and the great outdoors. He will be forever haunted by the Ben Stokes on drive for two that ended up going for six to third man!
