Class of 2014

It was all smiles at Parliament on 22 October 2014, when our Global Messengers Class of 2014 officially graduated, following a busy year of workshops and events.

Hosted by Special Olympics New Zealand Chair Ian McKelvie (MP for Rangitikei), the event was attended by Members of Parliament, Special Olympics New Zealand Trustees, key stakeholders, Special Olympics New Zealand co-founder Wendy Quinn and athletes’ family, friends and mentors. Athletes enjoyed an inspirational keynote address from the new Minister for Disability Issues, the Hon Nicky Wagner, and all athletes played key roles in running the event.

For the first time this year Special Olympics New Zealand partnered with external training provider The Training Practice, to deliver the four workshops the athletes took part in. New Zealand’s Athlete Leadership programme is the only programme in the Asia Pacific region to work with an external training partner.

The Class of 2014 now join Special Olympics New Zealand’s 42 existing Global Messengers. Congratulations!
