Gary Albright

016-SO-01-02-17-LR.jpgSpecial Olympics Mana athlete Gary Albright is already an experienced athlete leader. As head of the Mana Athletes’ Committee Gary plays an important role at his Club gathering ideas and opinions from the athletes and taking them to the Committee.

“One thing we have done is make some rules for the athletes,” Gary says. “Things like not smoking in our uniforms, not putting other people down and respecting each other.”

As for his sport, Gary competes in both basketball and aquatics, and has his eyes firmly set on the 2017 Special Olympics National Summer Games, which he’ll be taking on with his basketball squad.

“My goal is to try my hardest at Nationals and also to make people aware of what Special Olympics is. It has made me the person that I am and I have met lots of new friends and faces.

“I want to tell people what Special Olympics is all about.”

Outside of Special Olympics Gary keeps himself busy with his two part-time jobs – at Palmers in Plimmerton where he helps to move stock, and at CafĂ© Orange (also in Plimmerton) where he washes dishes. Gary also enjoys spending as much time as he can with his friends and family.
