Ian Baldwin

Hastings-based Ian Baldwin spends his days working on intricate jewellery, saving tiny works of art and restoring beauty. When he closes his shop for the week though it’s off to Superstrike to “throw a ball at 10 inanimate objects and knock them over without hurting anyone”.

He’s been described by Special Olympics athletes as a “character” and is the much-loved Head Coach of the Special Olympics New Zealand tenpin bowling team heading to the Asia Pacific Games 2013.
Ian is well versed in taking sports teams overseas. He was the Head Coach of the tenpin bowling team at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2011 to Athens, Greece, and coached teams at the 2007 Shanghai, China, and 1995 Connecticut, USA World Summer Games.
Ian has worked with Special Olympics New Zealand for 22 years, and has been coaching tenpin bowling for the past 10 years. Prior to tenpin bowling he coached (and played) football.
Ian is also a Trustee on the Hawke’s Bay Life Education Trust, and the Hawke’s Bay Tenpin Bowling Foundation. He has four daughters, 14 grandchildren, and three grandchildren.

Help our Asia Pacific Games 2013 team achieve their best in Newcastle!
